On This Day: June 1st, 1979

On this day 47 years ago, it was Game Five of the NBA Finals and the Seattle SuperSonics took home the trophy with a 97 to 93 victory against the Washington Bullets. A rematch of teams from the ’78 Finals; it was also known as the “George Washington Series” as both teams were from places with connections to the name “Washington.” Interestingly, tipoff wasn’t until 8:30 PM on the Pacific coast due to tape delays at the time.
