Seattle SuperSonics 1979 Championship: June 1, 1979
On this day 47 years ago, it was Game Five of the NBA finals and the Seattle SuperSonics took home the trophy with a 97 to 93 victory against the Washington Bullets. A rematch of teams from the ’78 Finals; it was also known as the “George Washington Series” as both teams were from places with connections to the name “Washington.” Interestingly, tipoff wasn’t until 8:30 PM on the Pacific coast due to tape delays at the time. Makes for a unique transit chart you typically wouldn’t see nowadays!
I caught a couple of notable things including the planet of death and rebirth in the 7th house of open enemies. The “open enemy” in this instance being the opponent - the Bullets who have since been reborn as the Washington Wizards. The Moon can have ties to the score and in this chart, it is at 2°. Had the Sonics made two less baskets they could have lost or at least gone into OT with a tie. Perhaps the Moon applying to Saturn (boundaries and restrictions) shows the final score would be restricted to a close call instead of a blowout win.
We have a Pisces rising chart at 23° with a Jupiter in Leo chart ruler in the 5th house of games. According to 36 Faces by Austin Coppock, the last decan of Pisces is “about the attainment of one’s greatest desires, no matter the cost.” The associated Tarot card is the Ten of Cups, titled “Perfected Success.” Like Ron Weasley standing in front of the Mirror of Erised (desire spelled backwards) it is said to be the attainment of the heart’s desires. Oh, and Leo rules the heart btw.
Mercury is in its home sign of Gemini and is moving through a house it typically feels comfortable in. It is also ruling the all-important Moon! All three of the “Team Night Chart” planets (Moon, Mars, Venus) are in their preferred hemisphere, below the horizon. Perhaps most notably, we can see the Sonics are experiencing their Jupiter Return at this time. Not only that but it’s taking place in the 5th house, it’s the chart ruler, and it rules over that Sagittarius Sun, shining a spotlight up in the 10th house of public reputation.
